Austria: Trump's Jerusalem decision 'contradicts all agreements' 


 Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that US President Donald Trump's decision to recognise Jerusalem as the Israeli capital "contradicts all the agreements", speaking in Vienna on Friday. Lavrov spoke after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the OSCE member-states.

Lavrov said that he had discussed the decision with his US counterpart Rex Tillerson, who he said hinted that the US expects to make a “deal of the century” to resolve the Israel-Palestine issue. Lavrov underlined that Russia would like to be aware of that deal.

Speaking on the topic of the Islamic State (IS; formerly ISIL/ISIS), the Russian Minister confirmed that the military group has been defeated in Syria and said that "the remaining hotbeds do not pose any serious threat", adding that they will be "eliminated".

Lavrov also commented on North Korea’s recent missile launch, saying that Russia "did not seek to justify" the launch, but condemned it. According to him, the US is acting "as if it wanted to incite [North Korea] to yet another gamble" and has been successful.

The Russian Minister affirmed that it will now be harder to create the conditions for a relaunch of dialogue and that the North Koreans "need the security guaranties."

Several US media outlets to be banned from State Duma events - Zakharova Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated that up to ten US media outlets will be banned from visiting the lower house of Russian parliament, speaking in a meeting of the State Duma's Standing Committee on Rules in Moscow on Monday. "I would like to emphasise we in no case deprive those US media representatives of the accreditation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are able to freely continue working as journalists in the Russian Federation," Zakharova noted. Zakharova's statement comes shortly after the US Congress withdrew RT America's accreditation on Capitol Hill. The spokesperson confirmed that Moscow's retaliatory measure would only apply to "those media which are funded by US Department of State and BBG." However, she refrained from naming the media organisations, saying instead, ''Let it be a surprise."
