Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau denies that the country has recognized Kosovo

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dacic met today Prime Minister of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau Umaro Sissoco Embaló, in Belgrade. Mr. Umaro Sissoco Embaló is on an official visit to Serbia.

At a joint press-conference, Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau denied that the country had recognized Kosovo, emphasizing in particular that Guinea-Bissau supported the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

"I have not seen a single document concerning the recognition of Kosovo", the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau said.

Minister Dacic underlined that he wanted the public to hear from the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau himself that this state had not recognized the independence of Kosovo and that it was but another confirmation of the fact that the list of countries which had recognized the independence of Kosovo, produced by Pristina, also contains those that had never done so.

The Serbian Foreign Minister emphasized that Suriname and Guinea-Bissau should be crossed out from the list compiled by Pristina.

Guinea-Bissau did not support Kosovo's admission to UNESCO and abstained when the proposal was put to the vote in 2015.

In today's press-conference, Minister Dacic and the Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau assessed that the two countries were tied by the friendship dating back to the times of the SFRY and that the amity needed to be cherished. The collocutors agreed that it was necessary to promote the two countries' cooperation and that there was plenty of room for enhancing relations at all levels, especially the two countries' economic cooperation.

Minister Dacic assessed that the visit was the first step to a further solidification and intensification of the two countries' political and economic ties.
